Mark Kirkland - Guided Spirit

Singer/Songwriter based in Tuscaloosa, AL. Couch By Couchwest '13 Alumni, Mark Kirkland has been making music for over 35 years. A retired from drummer and self-taught guitarist, he recorded this collection of reflective original songs using a ribbon mic with no multi-tracking giving it a live house concert intimacy. The songs are insightful and poignant with witty word play and easy going guitar strumming. Two standouts for me are 'Over You' and ‘Getting Old’ which highlight his unique vocals.
He is an engaging, delightfully witty character to follow on Twitter @maggiesfavorite
"This Project, "Guided Spirit" was done to celebrate my first half century on this rock we call Earth. You learn a lot about yourself when you write songs. I have been writing for more years than I care to admit going back to High School".

2.)Over You

Here's what our friends over at Ear to the Ground have to say>
Ride On The Train is an album that a lot of people are going to love for its multi-generational appeal. But besides that, it’s just good rock music. It’s hard to peg a specific sound on it. There are no “skip” songs on this album though. Be prepared to keep it in your player, on repeat, for a long time.

Mission Dorado - Yannash Naholl

Trey Brown: Rhythm Guitar, Vocals
Christopher Cox: Bass
Simon Page: Lead Guitar, Lap Steel

Texas-bred Mission Dorado, led by laid-back, dusty-voiced frontman Trey Brown satisfies all my cravings a concoction of noirish tinged, trippy experimental psychedelia mixed with plugged in dreamy folkish song structures.  With its entrancing guitar-scapes and inventive song structures, Yannash Naholl (Comanche for White Buffalo) is an album to get hypnotically, delightfully lost in.

Bio:
Abstract Artimus is an American music composer and performer from the deep South currently living in Manhattan, New York. He was born Artimus Alexander Pace, June 21st, 1983, in Jacksonville, Florida. At the time of his birth, his father was the drummer for the Jimmie Van Zant Band. After quitting the band, his father moved the family back to his home town of Mobile, Alabama. Much of Artimus's early life consisted of going to his father's rock shows as well as local and national concerts.

As Artimus grew older, he started playing in different bands including his first serious endeavor Fry Cook. After nearly ten years of Fry Cook, the band called it quits in 2006 due to unresolved issues. Artimus then formed the first incarnation of what would become Abstract Artimus. Their first show was as a  supporting act for Gwar. Several successful shows were played and an EP was recorded, but after the other members quit to pursue the family life, Artimus had to devise a new plan. He went on to write and perform as a one man band with random musicians joining him over the years. In 2009, after the release of "God is Mad" he added a backing band and an extensive European and North American
tour followed. Abstract Artimus has toured the US, Canada and Europe both as a one man band and with his backing band which consists of a revolving door of musicians. He is currently touring and writing music at a constant pace. He has released several albums independently and on various independent labels in the U.S. and Europe.

Matthew Patrick – Blue Sun

Settling in Maryland after a whirlwind life that took him from Poughkeepsie to Palo Alto, Williamtown (MA) and Seattle, the multi-talented singer/songwriter Matthew Patrick recorded Blue Sun, his new full length country-blues-roots influenced set whose soulful and eclectic vibe he likes to call “redneck reggae” or “Memphis meets Kingston.”
“I was in the process of putting together new songs for my next project,” says Patrick, “and as a few of them were in the reggae vein, I looked him up. We re-connected, and Andrew took my scratch vocal and acoustic guitar tracks, hooked me up with a Jamaican bassist named Lyndon ‘Ace’ Webb, and knocked them out of the park. They sounded so good that I took all of the other tracks I had been toying with and decided to follow the same path on those.
It was really fun to take songs that I had originally conceived as country songs or New Orleans tunes and to see how Andrew and Ace would translate them. I have always loved music that crossed racial and social boundaries, from Chuck Berry playing straight up country on ‘Maybellene’ to Elvis playing Arthur Crudup’s ‘That’s Alright Mama,’ and the blues/rock/reggae hybrid we created fit right into that concept.”
Kiddo's get on this groovy train, soulful Rhythm and Blues with a touch of “redneck reggae” and country highlighted by killer guitar, Hammond Organ and outstanding vocals and harmonies with layered instrumentation throughout.
The first song sets the stage with theCaribbean flavored intro on ‘Dog’ that then adds some bluesy harp vocals on top of a grooving melody, the track ‘I’ve Got Love’ adds a soulful Motown sound to these multi-cultural elements that carry throughout the album. “Bikes, Bullets and Beer” and ‘I Am Drunk’ are real country roadhouse rockers with ripping slide guitar. harp solos and barroom sing-along lines.  The smooth romantic crooner ‘Blue Green Eyes’ is rich with laid back reggae vibe was written when he first met his wife and features beautiful amorous vocals and harmonies. The middle tracks ‘Guess I've Gotta Do’, ‘I Ain't Got What You Got’ and ‘Too Old To Die Young’ throw a little country rock into the mix but maintain the “redneck reggae” vibe that is constant throughout. The final track ‘Ramblin' Rose’ is a beautiful soulful ode to love.
The album has varied musical influences that seem effortlessly melded together with stellar instrumentation, craftsmanship and a passion felt throughout.

1. Dog
2. I've Got Love.mp3

Joe Kille - Arkadelphia

I imagine Joe Killa as a man with holes in the soles of his shoes, rolling along with his fiddle on his back setting in anywhere there’s a stool and a jam going on.  Arkadelphia is a wandering soul’s album, the songs harken to the joys and sorrows of the journey, with a skip in your step on the road less traveled, aimless but persistent in going forward.
He is a proficient multi-instrumentalist on fiddle, lap steel, banjo, guitar from the Philadelphia area and has sat in with Morning River Band and The Miners as well as Soft Gut, Wes Mattheu & The New Way Down, and Sonya Cotton to name a few. He is also playing and recording with The Broken Prayers and Los Culeros. You can get your copy of Arkadelphia by contacting Joe at arkadelphia.music@gmail.com avalible digitally and on vinyl.
