Preview> MELODIME "Where The Sinners & The Saints Collide," deluxe edition

MELODIME, a rock band that blends haunting bittersweet melodies with emotionally rich vocals atop a bed of Southern-flavored alt rock, will be releasing its album, Where the Sinners & the Saints Collide, in a deluxe edition (with six new songs and a new band member) on September 2, 2014 via Rock Ridge Music.  With the original album fully funded by their loyal and ever-growing fan base during their “Make an album, change a life” campaign, the band is donating 100% of the profits from album sales to a non-profit foundation they started called Now I Play Along Too, which provides musical instruments and education for orphans, victims of disasters, and underprivileged kids locally and around the world.  Where the Sinners & the Saints Collide was recorded at Black Dog Sound Recording Studios outside of Atlanta, GA with producer Rick Beato (Shinedown, NEEDTOBREATHE, Charlie Mars).
“We want to do something with our lives beyond the music to show people that you don't have to be famous to make an impact in this world,” says lead vocalist and guitarist Bradley Rhodes.
Inspired by the gift of musical instruments years ago to a family member by an anonymous person (the song “Brothers,” which is new to the deluxe edition, tells this tale in musical form), they are continuing that story and putting instruments into the hands of people who would've never been able to afford them.

This idea of looking outside yourself is woven throughout Where the Sinners & the Saints Collide, along with the concepts of coming together, regardless of differences, to do some good.
“The album carries strong themes of redemption and has songs about picking yourself up from your boot straps, using those past mistakes and failures to make yourself a better person to help people who may be ‘lost and broken,’” says Rhodes, who adds that the theme picks up where their 2011 album 3 Reasons For Fighting left off.

Virginia-based MELODIME, whose influences growing up included rock from the ’60s, ’70s, and ’80s instead of what kids their age were into, began as a trio and is now a fleshed-out quartet – Bradley Rhodes (vocals, guitar), brothers Sammy Duis (piano, organ, bass) and Tyler Duis (drums), and new member Jon Wiley (guitar, vocals) – that plays upwards of 150 shows a year. They have performed up and down the East Coast, including such legendary clubs as D.C.’s 9:30 Club and N.Y.’s The Bitter End, nabbing a spot on the 2014 and 2015 The Rock Boat cruise festival with Sister Hazel, Barenaked Ladies, Tonic, Collective Soul, Edwin McCain, and others

NEW Release from Joe Sundell - The Hat Thief

Y'all know I dig a storytelling troubadour, Residing in Austin, TX, Joe Sundell shoots right up my list of the great new crop of singer/songwriters purveying in the art of modern day minstrel's. Joe incorporates a great New Orleans vibe in his rustic americana blues with real salt of the earth folk tales. There's everything here from Ol' timey swing to Rock n Roll. Joe is definitely someone to watch and I consider The Hat Thief essential listening and a Best of 2014 release.
Joe worked on the 12 original songs for over a year and a half. The tracking was completed with Alex Moore at Lunchroom Audio in Buda, TX and includes some fantastic musicians such as David Jellema on cornet and clarinet and Western Swing hall of famer Jake Erwin on bass. The album was mixed at EAR Studio with famed producer Billy Lee Myers formerly of Austin City Limits.

Born and raised in rural Southeast Arkansas, Joe picked up guitar at the age of 13 and his first memories of music are playing with his father in the living room at the family home. Along with his brother Jack, they played a variety of folk and traditional music on family occasions. At 19 while
attending Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas, Sundell began to play banjo and two years later formed his first band the Damn Bullets. After college Sundell moved to Austin, Texas where he has released a total of five albums and is a founding member of Sad Daddy, the Austin Steamers, and the Show and Tellers. His music has been described as a combination of many different genres of American music, most notably Bluegrass, Western Swing, Dixieland Jazz, Country Blues, Folk, and Ragtime. He has done numerous tours both as a solo artist and with his various groups, going to both coasts of the United States as well as across the water to the United Kingdom and Europe. His second full length solo album in 2014, the Hat Thief, was released in August 2014. Goat Motel was released in Febuary.

Listen> The Harmonica Lewinskies NEW Single Put Your Mouth On Me

“Put Your Mouth On Me” highlights The Harmonica Lewinskies two main influences. They mix the blues-rock sounds from The Rolling Stones with a classic punk inspiration from Iggy Pop. Those two sounds, combined with the group’s hilarious, tongue-in-cheek lyrics, come together for a unique listening experience.
The Harmonica Lewinskies are an eight-piece jazz-funk band the group is international, with members from Australia and the U.S. Their mix of sounds is what makes the band unique, with a style that’s just as memorable as their name. They have been together for five years.

Thier second album Dad Rock is slated for release on Sept. 23. Their first album was 2012’s Octopus Wall Street, which was followed by Salad Days in 2013.

Sneakout's 'Letting Go' Mixtape Out Today + #FREEBEE Thought You Had It All

Sneakout is the new project of LA-based artist Robert Fleming, who was previously making music under the moniker Victory. Today, he releases his Letting Go Mixtape, a collection of brand new tracks paired with acoustic versions of Victory favorites "Play It" (which was featured in a national ad campaign for Cadillac) and "Soothing Me So" (featured in a 2014 Fashion Week campaign for iPhone and Burberry.)

Among the new Sneakout jams are the smooth "Thought I Had It All," (free download) and the undeniably catchy "The Art Of Hanging On," dubbed "the perfect pick-me-up tune" by NYLON. The mixtape also features a remix of "The Art Of Hanging On" by DJ/producer duo Enso.

Feel Bad For You August 2014 Mix Tape

wow it's September already, lets' revisit Augusts' Feel Bad For You Mix Tape Posted on August 18, 2014 while we wait for Septemeber's mix to go through it's rigorous pre-prodcution phase.
Thanks to @Popa2unes (oh that's me) for the cover art from his childhood and thanks to all who contributed. As always drunken rambling comments are strongly encouraged. Download

Title: Saturday Song
Artist: Mustard
Album (2002): Mustard II Unnamed Unfinished Album
Submitted By: annieTUFF
Comments: Ya know, August is a weird month. It’s still very much summer. School starts back (in my area anyway), and towards the end of the month you can start to feel fall creeping up on you. Transitional I suppose. Anyway. This song is about Saturdays, but I can kinda relate it to summer as a whole. Mustard is a great Knoxville band from the 90′s. Various members are still out there making music everyday, check them out via the ol’ facebook for musical shenanigans and links to current musical projects. http://www.facebook.com/tastethemustardmustard

Title: Love U Forever
Artist: Jenny Lewis
Album (2014): The Voyager
Submitted By: hoosier buddy
Comments: This song would be a guilty pleasure, if only I still experienced that feeling. Instead I find it easy to like this song the same way I liked making out with strangers when I was a working musician. It was never about forever. It was always about feeling something right now, even if it was “the feeling of hell in a hallway.”
Title: Month Of Bad Habits
Artist: Andrew Combs
Album (2014): unreleased
Submitted By: Bryan Childs (ninebullets.net)
Comments: A demo track of an amazing song that will (hopefully) be on his next album.
Title: My Dad
Artist: Paul Westerberg
Album (2004): Folker
Submitted By: @BoogieStudio22
Comments: After a year of declining health, at age 84, my dad passed away on July 22, 2014. I got to help my dad and mom quite a bit this year and was happy to do it. I hadn’t listened to this song in ages, but it popped up on random play last week. So long dad…
Title: Leather Jacket
Artist: Mick Taylor
Album (1979): Mick Taylor
Submitted By: TheSecondSingle
Comments: There’s something timeless about this track. It’s far more Springsteen than Stones. Perfect end of summer jam. Shoulda been a hit in ’79.
Title: Here Comes A Regular
Artist: The Replacements
Album (1985): Tim
Submitted By: Mad Mackerel Music Blog
Comments: Another belated discovery, this time of the sheer genius of The Replacement’s 1985 release Tim, and so we have chosen possibly one of the finest album closers you could ever wish to hear for FBFY. Here Comes A Regular is an unflinching, twitchy confessional – the perfect misfits hymn of alienation.
Title: “Road To Nowhere”
Artist: Talking Heads
Album (2004): “The Best Of Talking Heads”
Submitted By: Gorrck
Comments: Been all over Scotland this summer — traveling somewhere every weekend. One two week trip to the continent that completely depleted the bank account. The original scope of my project here has changed daily. Seems like a fitting song for this summer.
Title: Time Is Not Your Own
Artist: Solomon Grundy
Album (1990) Solomon Grundy
Submitted By: toomuchcountry
Comments: Reached into the dark corners of my collection to retrieve this one. Didn’t listen to it much after buying it. Never read a review on the album and have no clue what happened to the band. I bought the CD simply because the band’s name was the same as a Sesame Street character I remembered as a kid.
Title: Wide Open
Artist: Travis Meadows
Album (2013): Old Ghosts & Unfinished Business
Submitted By: Trailer

Title: Happy Man
Artist: Sparklehorse

Title: Tryin’ to Get to Heaven
Artist: Bob Dylan
Arlbum (1997): Time Out of Mind
Submitted By: Rockstar Aimz
Comments: Been on a Dylan bender the last few days. Cued up my 32 hours, 49 minutes, and 47 seconds of mp3 Bob, and after a few hours this song jumped out at me and kicked my ass.
Title: 27 Forever
Artist: Eric Burdon
Album (2013): ‘Til Your River Runs Dry

Title: Confederates
Artist: Michael Rank & Stag
Album (2013): In The Weeds

Comments : Having listened to Ranks latest album, Deadstock I’ve gone back to his earlier ones. This song knocked me out.
