Annie Lou - Grandma's Rules For Drinkin'

Another great release from Hearth Music, Annie Lou - Grandma's Rules For Drinkin' is an ole' timey floor board tappin' excursion to Appalachia by way of the Yukon. Excellent fiddlin' and strummin' and Annie's time warp vocalizations combined with great storytelling bring the past and present together in this outstanding album.

Grandma’s Rules for Drinking features the songwriting, singing, and guitar/banjo work of Anne Louise Genest, who spent twenty-two years in the Yukon woods. Recorded in Toronto, the album features the prodigious old-time fiddling of John Showman (New Country Rehab), the clawhammer banjo of Kim Barlow and Frank Evans, with Max Heineman (Foggy Hogtown Boys) on upright bass. The album was produced by multiple Juno-nominee Andrew Collins of Canadian alt-stringband The Creaking Tree String Quartet. Collins brought his extensive experience of pushing the boundaries of traditional music, plus some burning mandolin playing.

The Smoking Trees - Acetates

From it's entrancing opening aptly titled 'Entrance' we find ourselves transported back to the heyday of the Psychedelic scene waiting for Dr. Leary, Mr. Kesey and Owsley to make an entrance and lead us on our journey, but stepping into that place is the new Royalty of the scene Sir Psych and L.A. Al, The Smoking Trees
On the second song they implore us to 'See' Floating away...lost in the night breeze. You're going and you're gone. I'll see you in a song. And then 'Merry Go Maggie' sets the stage for the rest of the album's pilgrimage. Filled with heady lyrics, astral vocals, backed by multi instruments and groovy effects, this is a trip you'll want to take again and again.

Isle of Rhodes - All Rivers and Oceans

Brooklyn's Isle of Rhodes was founded in the spring of 2011 by front man and keyboardist Rob Farren. Farren, who had previously played keys with Aphonic (of Detroit), and synth bass with Kiss or Kill decided that he would like to strip his rig down to one keyboard: a Rhodes. An eclectic choice for an instrument, the Rhodes is a vintage keyboard with similar circuitry to an electric guitar.
Isle of Rhodes’ first studio length album “All Rivers and Oceans” was recorded with Grammy winning producer Jason Corsaro (Steve Winwood, Duran Duran, Motorhead, Madonna) and co-producer David Lloyd of Social Hero. Released by Machine Dream Records.

If you've ever put a conch shell to your ear and dreamed of warm sand between your toes, ocean breezes and piña colada's at your fingertips, put the shell down!. These 11 songs of grooviness with compelling melodies, sumptuous reverb, and hypnotic vocals are the cure for your doldrums.

Jersey's primal psych/blues four piece outfit Ruby The Hatchet's long awaited debut album 'Ouroboro' drops 10/30/2012 on their Bandcamp page recorded and mixed primarily analog, using mostly equipment made before 1978. Back in July they Streamed it for a week, and if you caught it you are probably as excited as I am for this release. Long before Elin Larsson of Blues Pills was on the scene, Jillian Taylor was bringing raw, emotional belt it out bluesified vocals backed by heavy percussion and wailing riffs to those of us fortunate enough to live in the Tri-State area. Though there are hints of Grace Slick and Janis Joplin, her voice is unique and fresh and the band is tighter than a 55 gallon drum yet sound like they are just improvising in a garage in Haight Ashbury, the fact that the world doesn't know about them is a crying shame.

Jillian Taylor, a native of Asbury Park, NJ, filmed a short video about the band’s contribution for Rebuild Recover, which you can view below.
