A Soldier’s Burden
tie my travel bags. i’m shipping out.
mary, kiss me on the mouth.
a soldier fights his sorrows, fears, & doubts
before he even sees the battleground.
a soldier shares his sadness with the badlands and the gun.
our march is never ending ‘til the war is lost or won so
take aim where you will if you got the heart - the heart to kill
‘cos we’ll always have the blood to spill - to fire our guns at will.
take aim where you will if you got the heart - the heart to kill - then kill.
you know i got the blood to spill so fire your guns at will.
we fire our guns to kill.
if i should not return don’t seek my grave.
we’ll meet again come judgement day.
believe i shed no blood or fought in vain.
oh, i only pray to see your face.
light the fuse to fire me from a cannon with a cry.
there ain’t no way to win a war if someone doesn’t die so
take aim where you will if you got the heart - the heart to kill
‘cos we’ll always have the blood to spill - to fire our guns at will.
take aim where you will if you got the heart - the heart to kill - then kill.
you know i got the blood to spill so fire your guns at will.
we fire our guns to kill.
i knew there’d never be no warning.
there’s just a bullet burning in my side.
so i say farewell to the soldier’s burden
but even in death my ghost can’t rest while we still fight.
take aim where you will if you got the heart - the heart to kill.
‘cos we’ll always have the blood to spill - to fire our guns at will.
take aim where you will if you got the heart - the heart to kill - then kill.
you know i got the blood to spill so fire your guns at will.
fire your guns at will.
