New Release The Woodwards II

Peter Schuyff and Stevie Guy

To me The Woodwards conjure images of Kerouac, Burroughs and Ginsberg sittiing conspiratoraly in a corner, Iggy and Tom chat quietly over coffee and cigarettes, John Gibbon’s wanders around collecting pieces of found objects littered about, Diana di Prima and Hettie Jones slither from table to table in black turtlenecks and tights, random chatter flows like poetry mingling with thick billows of smoke.
Perhaps the fact that Peter spent two decades living in the famed Chelsea Hotel he has absorbed much of the vibe of its Beat Generation heyday, like being transported Peter Schuyff with prose like Leonard Cohen collaborating with Dyan and a voice like a laid back Lou Reed and Stevie Guy's beautifully delicate vocals, on The Woodwards magnificent 2nd release II, Peter uses words to paint pictures that bring the sights, sounds and feel of the beatniks into the new century. I think I’ll call it Beat Noir, the music flows with Morricone sounding riffs, echoing melodies and a myriad of percussion toys weaving delicious melodic songs.

The Woodwards II will be released on November 4th on iTunes

After the turn of the new century, Schuyff began writing and singing songs. He says that these songs are the paintings he has always wanted to make. He moved to Amsterdam and recorded his first album. The Woodwards’ eponymous 2009 debut album was produced by Attie Bauw (Judas Priest, Bootsie Collins, Simple Minds) and featured Rob Kloet (The Nits) on drums, Gwen Cresens on bandoneon, and Signe Tollefsen singing backing vocals. The Yawpers - "Good Songs/Shitty Versions"

Photo: George Blosser
Nate Cook, Jesse Parmet, James Hale

Last year at this time October 30th The Yawpers dropped one of the best albums of 2012, their debut LP "Capon Crusade" an expansive and diverse blending rock/blues riffs, country twang with punkitude.
Coming October 31st, in what the lads may have entered into as a lark, at a studio in Bill Douglass/Royal Recording Colorado Springs "Good Songs/Shitty Versions" Recorded in one day at a studio in Colorado Springs. (Bill Douglass/Royal Recording) is a covers album as only The Yawpers can do, rough, loose, let the shit hit the fan and see what sticks. What sticks is every song on this great covers album. It isn’t easy doing covers unless you completely own the songs and make them your own, The Yawpers do just that in their brazen style.

They twang up ‘Sweet Emotion’ with a Rock a Billy middle finger to "The Bad Boys from Boston"
The King gets punked and capowned as the lads tighten and hoist their tighty whiteys for background vocals on ‘Suspicious Minds’
Slowing it down as Ween pleas on,  ‘Booze Me Up and Get Me High’ The Yawpers demand ‘Booze Me Up and Get Me High’
Yakety Yak (The Coasters) gets blasted to high heaven and falls back down to earth in glorious pieces of debris.  Can you cover yourself? The Yawpers take their song ‘Silicone Love’ speed it up, surf it up and add a punk a billy attitude to it.
Ripping through Ace of Spades (Motorhead) like meth head maniacs, guitars ablaze and drums pounding at the gates of hell leaving Lemmy asking ‘What the fuck just happened?’

"Good Songs/Shitty Versions" Track List: (right click save as)
2.   Suspicious Minds (Elvis)
4.   Yakety Yak (The Coasters)
5.       Silicone Love (The Yawpers) yes they cover themselves

I ask Nate about how this came together:
For real, we just wanted to make something quick, dirty, and fun for our fans to hold them over until our next release in the Spring. And yeah, it was a total fucking blast. Zero pressure. When you're not overly invested, it's easier just to let things fly.
It's just stupid versions of good songs. We might call it that, actually ... 'Stupid Versions of Good Songs.'

Gabriel Lambert geetar, backing vox
Stephen “Levenk” Venkatarangam farfisa, bass, backing vox

There is so much grooviness coming from this East meets West psych band I think George Harrsion is smiling ear to ear. Expansive, daring and absolutely essential listening!
Montreal’s Elephant Stone was formed in 2009 by sitarist/bassist Rishi Dhir. As one of the most highly sought out sitar players in the psychedelic music scene, he has recorded and toured with the Black Angels, Brian Jonestown Massacre, the Horrors, the Soundtrack of Our Lives, and many more.
2013 has seen the band release their sophomore long-player, perform at both SXSW and the Austin Psych Fest, as well as tour North America with both the Zombies and the Black Angels.

The first single "Where The Heart Is" instantly grabs you and sets the stage for an extremely enjoyable six song EP of brisk catchy replayers.
"I wrote 'Where the Heart Is' near the end of a multiple-month long solo tour, where I almost fell through the floor from loneliness to find me the comfort of knowing I was soon going home. The song, and the record as a whole, reflects on places where life has once been, now left empty, and my attempt at putting it back where it belongs."
