This is hard for me to believe, but there are many who don't know about The Imperial Rooster, well it's time to get off the fence post and flap yer wings and crow at the rising sun! This band kicks ass! They don't only make music that's fun they have fun making and preforming it, Anything goes at a Rooster Show. Like all independent bands, a shoe string doesn't last as long as it should. Their new album "Decent People" is packed with great songs and is available for digital download on their website here. Yeah it's a digital world, but we all like to hold great albums in our greasy little hands, and this is one of those albums you'll want in you collection. Help them with their kickstart campaign to release it on CD and Vinyl to do just that. Ok? give a little, give what you can.
Now follow me here and lets get this barnyard stomp a-going!

The Dead Exs release their CD - Resurrection, and it’s a party!
By @popa2unes and DJ Knucklehead

Cross-post on Now This Sound Is Brave
We wandered into the Bowery Electric and walked down the steep steps to the basement with water pouring down the pealing brick walls from the torrential downpour taking place outside. Large chrome lights dangled from the high black ceilings; it was dark, dank and perfect for what was about to take place: raw, fuzzy roots rock and blues. "The Dead Exs CD release Party." We found a seat on one of the large Group W benches that surrounded the stage, and planted ourselves. There was a nice size, enthusiastic crowd of Hipniks,Hipsters, Rockers, Hobohemians and an abundance of beautiful women. I love NYC.
Bang Bang Boogaloo recording artists, The Dead Exs are David Pattillo (henceforth DP) on electric slide guitar and vocals with Wylie Wirth on the skins.
The Dead Exs bring a multitude of influences to their music from Albert King to ZZ Top. Every song seems to have a bluesy familiarity to it, but is original in its writing, delivery and style; it’s just good ole Rock n Blues and I love it. Their live performance is like being invited into their home for a night of hanging around with friends.
They started the show with “Whole Lot of Nothing” with DP alone on the stage with his axe, working slow and steady building up to a powerful crescendo that brought everyone to full attention and the ladies out onto the dance floor. Then BAM! Out of nowhere Wylie crept into his seat to join in with a thunderous beat.

DP - Slide Guitar

Wylie Wirth - Drums
They played “All Over You”, “La Grange/Come Down Easy” and “Gone” with Mark Grandfield on harp. At the end of “Come Down Easy” they released the Kracken in an electric, sonic-guitar-harp- blob of fuzzion that nearly blew the roof off the place.

Mark Grandfield on harp

Mark Grandfield on harp DP on Guitar
They were joined by Shane Bozza on vocals and Jimmy Caps on bass from The Dirty Glamor for three Rock scorchers: “No Way To Go But Up”, “Shut Up and Love Me” and “Till It’s Gone” -delighting the crowd even more. When Shane sang “Shut Up and Love Me” I found myself nodding my head yes, yes, yes! ...and I lost my heart for the umpteenth time that night.

Shane Bozza of The Dirty Glamor on Vocals

Jimmy Caps of The Dirty Glamor on Bass DP Guitar-Vocal

Jimmy Caps and Shane Bozza
At times DP seemed to transform into Ganesh playing four guitars at once, wrenching more from the instrument than seems humanly possible. He snarls, growls, wails, and screams his way through every song in a way that can provoke the savage soul in any human.
Like a ghost blending into the background with the kaleidoscope images projecting on his spirit, Wylie sat at his kit and was a powerhouse of drum beats. He is a solid drummer with an effortless style, laying down hypnotic drumbeats, and then suddenly he’ll crash those skins like Jacob Marley shaking his chains in the middle of the night, shooting you out of your skin.
The Dead Exs show, that yes you can still play the Blues today and still be new and exciting. There are no rules; their sound is modern yet classic, ruff and primal. They are a Rock N' Roll band that seem to take ques from all facets of music from Blues, to Soul, to Jazz, and tie it together in a dirty, nasty, raw mass of sonic nuts and bolts meant for only one thing: to knock you off your feet.
Also on the bill were Only Living Boy, The Fieros and Golden Animals from the Bang Bang Boogaloo NY Rock and Roll Compilation 1, which you can download for free here, which I highly recommend you do. See Post below...for more on Bang Bang Boogaloo

Rock and Roll Revival in NYC
Bang Bang Boogaloo is a NYC label specializing in hand crafted digital compilations of amazing music and is at the forefront of the Revivalist Rock and Roll Scene taking place in NYC.
David Pattillo, creator and curator of Bang Bang Boogaloo, is a producer with a credit list from Alanis Morrissette to Robert Plant, The Black Crowes to the Beastie Boys. Last year he co-wrote and produced the Reni Lane debut for Universal Motown. He is a writer, producer, and member of the bands The Dirty Glamour, The Dead Exs, and upcoming artist Flor Zaballa. The New York Rock & Roll 1 compilation is his premiere compilation of NY based alt rock unsigned bands reviving roots rock and roll. A free download of this compilation is available here...BangBangBoogaloo
Here is the tracklist:
- The Fieros – To Pieces
- The Othermen – I Don’t Know Why
- The Dirty Glamour – No Way To Go But Up
- Golden Animals – The Steady Roller
- The Dead Exs – More Stuff
- The Naked Heroes – Foxy Moxy
- Boom Chick – Cryin’ Rooster
- Kelle Calco and The Colored Boys – Same Dark Circles
- The Compulsions - Groove On
- The Dirty Shames – You’re A Drag
- Only Living Boy – My Heart Is Burning
Elmore Magazine in their May/June issue profiles Band Bang Boogaloo as a tastemaker for up and coming hard hitting roots rock and roll. In an issue that features some of the greatest guitar players on the planet, we got a very nice toast. “The BBB Launch Party heralded a hefty bill of New York’s best yet-to-be-discovered acts like The Fieros, The Othermen, and Pattillo’s own gutter-blues band, The Dead Exs.” Thanks to writer Lara Hemingway for a sweet write up.Here are some video's of some of the bands on the compilation:
The Dead Exs: Inspired by classic garage and blues recordings, The Dead Exs bring it back to mono, recording entirely LIVE in the studio with dp (David Pattillo) on electric slide guitar and vocals and Wylie Wirth on the skins.
The Fieros are a straight up, no-frills rock-n-roll band. Formed in 2005 and honored with Dallas Observer awards for Best New Act in 2006 and Best Indie Rock in 2007, their fan base has continued to grow steadily. In their short time together they have opened for The B-52’s, The Polyphonic Spree, Okkervil River, The Redwalls, The Whigs, and The Black Angels. They have played over 200 shows in the southwest region. In 2008 The Fieros relocated to Brooklyn, NY to spread their music to a wider audience and are looking forward to the release of their debut EP
Boom Chick "Oozes punk thunder through a smoke screen of Delta ache. It’s an honor to be mentioned in the same breath with The White Stripes and Led Zeppelin, and the most thrilling moments on Show Pony actually earn the privilege." - American Songwriter
The Dirty Shames have managed to stir up quite a buzz in and around New York City. Their frequent live appearances have helped build a following that transcends boundaries and brings people from varying scenes together for the love of rock n' roll.
The Compulsions Heralded by Classic Rock magazine as "The Coolest Band In The World," The Compulsions have been riding a wave of increasing success and visibility. The New York band has amassed a mountain of critical acclaim the likes of which most bands would, to quote a Compulsions lyric, "shake hands with the Devil" to receive. Their recorded work has seen incredible success in the world of college radio, often out charting artists like Beck, Metallica and Oasis. The Compulsions have had their Demon Love EP licensed by MTV for popular programs The City and Parental Control
The Naked Heroes Rump shakin', soulredemmin', head bangin' rock 'n' roll.
Golden Animals Blending '60s psychedelic- and surf-rock with bluesy folk, Golden Animals formed when Tommy Eisner (vocals, guitar) and Linda Beercroft (vocals, percussion) met on a sidewalk in Brooklyn.
Kelli Calco and The Colored Boys don’t just sound like classic rock, they are classic rock. Soaring electric guitar riffs accompanied by chugging acoustic and passionate growling rhythm-and-blues vocals were the real deal, not a gimmick.
Only Living Boy "...blues on the nastier side... aggressive and in your face, like a locomotive steered by Eric Clapton on a collision course with The Raconteurs." —Dustin Schoof, Exposed Magazine/Express-Times

Thursday Smells like Tune Spirit
Thursday nights are the new Friday’s. Internet Radio streaming and Pod casts abound.
The Takeover Radio Show
The top of the list out of personal bias is the Takeover Radio show on 90.3 The Core out of the Livingston Campus Rutgers University New Brunswick, NJ Thursday Night’s 10pm to Midnight EST. Live stream on The Core FM they do not have Pod Cast as of yet, that’s a shame I would love to archive the show via Pod Cast for prosperity, as it is a show my two son’s Derek and Kevin have been DJing since 2008 except for brief solo gig’s for one semester. They play some kick ass music, a mixture of Indie R&B, Garage, Surf, Rock, and Blues. I highly recommend stopping by on a Thursday Night and cook up some riffs. Requests are welcome..
RadioBilly with the Subculture Collective
This is an amazing Internet Radio streaming and Podcast with something all week. Wreckhouse Radio, The Gospel According to the Barstool Preacher, Lonestar Texabilly Radio, Billy,Billy,Billy but I’m dealing with Thursday nights here, Like I said these are available in Podcast so there is absolutely no reason not to bleed your ears.
The Psychobilly Garden Party with Nate The Psychobilly Gardener
Nate runs the Psychobilly Garden Party. The party is a psychobilly and punk and radio show, created in the style of a black cabaret. It combines the music with B-movie monster comedy, talking animals, time travel, 50s-style sci-fi and just about anything sick, funny & weird that Nate’s imagination can dream up. The music is the harder edge of Psychobilly with a heavy, punk feel. The punk takes from all the subgenres whether Oi!, classic UK, US Hardcore, but focuses on the energy of the music. Any interviews with bands are based around the idea of a desert island………Read More

No man is a Couch entire of itself
No man is a Couch entire of itself; every man
is a piece of the fabric, a part of the sofa;
if a cushion be thrown to the curb, The Couch
is the less, And therefore never send to know for whom
the door bell tolls; it tolls for thee. -John Doe
Last week by a fortunate mishap of fate I found myself at the most wonderful Music Festival I’ve ever attended. Couch by Couchwest. Where the beer is cheaper and the only hipster is you. I don’t remember how I got there or if I’ve even left.
I soon came to realize that I wasn’t the only like minded Couch Spud ensconced in Slack-assery, there were other Couchalotist’s out in the twitterverse. A whole community of Couchster’s pondering the depths of their shag carpets and the wonders of the multitude of dust balls, snack crumbs and cat and dog hairs that share the vastness of this comfy rectangle we call Mother Couch.
