Feel Bad For You March 2015 Mixtape

I've been procrastidasical reblogging Feel Bad For You Mixtapes but I'm sure by now most of you go right to the source on a monthly basis. FBFY April will be dropping any time now so, ICYMI here's March's tasty tidbits.

1. “Magnet”
Punch Brothers
The Phosphorescent Blues (2015)
Submitted By: @philnorman
Comments: Editor’s Note: Phil submitted this track but I lost the comments. D’oh!
2. “Bomb Disneyland”
The Fat White Family
Champagne Holocaust (2014)
Submitted By: Mad Mackerel Music Blog
Comments: Saw The Fat White Family live for the first time last week and was blown away by the mix of hazy motorik rhythms, queasy 60s psychedelia and crazy frontman histrionics. They finished with this track which was like the Stooges crossed with Heath Ledger’s Joker…awesome.
3. “Rockin’ With Peggy”
L.C. Robinson
House Cleanin’ Blues (1974)
Submitted By: @BoogieStudio22
Comments: Some kick-ass instrumental blues from the mid-70s.
4. “Hurry Up And Wait”
Ben Miller Band
New West / Normaltown Records 2015 Spring Sampler (2015)
Submitted By: @BoogieStudio22
Comments: Some recent kick-ass ‘Ozark Stomp’ from a guy who’s been getting some ‘airtime’ on various podcasts.
5. “Ramblin’ Ways”
American Aquarium
Wolves (2015)
Submitted By: hoosier buddy
Comments: This slinky, slappy groove feels new and familiar at the same time. I used to think this was about life on the road, but it’s really about sincere devotion. Could have been a song by Two Cow Garage, but it ain’t. I want to move to where this is on the radio.
6. “No Good”
Banditos
Banditos (2015)
Submitted By: @Popa2unes
Comments: Quiver with me, I came across this band on a reverbnation excursion a while back and was mesmerized, and was excited to hear Bloodshot Records picked them up recently after seeing them at SXSW. Their debut self-titled releases on May 12th. Pre-order on Bandcamp. The members of the band first met playing in various punk and rock ‘n’ roll projects around Birmingham at D.I.Y., all-ages venues. In 2010, singer/guitarist Corey Parsons and singer/banjo player Stephen Pierce began busking around town and were soon asked to perform at their favorite local bar. Without a full band they invited friends Randy Wade (drums), Jeffrey Salter (guitar), and Mary Beth Richardson (vocals) to join them.
7. “Don’t Look That Way”
Shelly Poole
Hard Time For the Dreamer (2005)
Submitted By: @tincanman2010
Comments: A recent English discovery. Nice slow burner torch song. What is this hold FBFY has over me?
8. “Nissim”
The Gaslamp Killer
Breakthrough (2012)
Submitted By: @Truersound
Comments: I’ve been playing a lot of GTA V lately.
9. “Unspoken Thing”
David Corley
Available Light (2015)
Submitted By: Blabber’n’Smoke
Comments One of my favourite releases so far this year. Has a nice John Murry-like desperation to it along with an excellent lazy country shuffle.
10. “Dogs of Lust”
The The
Dusk (1993)
Submitted By: @magearwig
Comments: Winter was a bitch; let’s skip spring altogether and go right to sultry summer nights full of booze and sexual urgings.
11. “Jesus Built My Hotrod”
Ministry
Psalm 69 (1992)
Submitted By: Gorrck
Comments: Kicking it old school. I’m realizing this song is older than some of the kids I manage. Plus if this is up on my iTunes at work, it will not raise eyebrows from the church crowd. Hehehehe. I’m old.
12. “Light Enough to Travel”
The Be Good Tanyas
Blue Horse (2001)
Submitted By: @simon2307
Comments: Just can’t get this song out my head the last few days, my favourite track from TBGT.
13. “Awkward”
Fidlar
Awkward (Single) (2013)
Submitted By: @annieTUFF
Comments: SPRING, kind of. It’s more of a muddy mess. At least the ice has melted, aside from a random pile of gross snow you might find in a parking lot (but that’s more in a days drive, not in my actual town). Anyway. Everything is muddy, it looks gross but there’s hope. Time change has happened, everyone is groggy and feels weird this week….but man oh man it’s so awesome. Does this explain anything about my song choice? Who knows?
14. “Fade Into You” (Mazzy Star cover)
J. Mascis
Fade Into You 7″ (2014)
Submitted By: @TheSecondSingle
Comments: Fantastic acoustic cover of a classic.
15. “Chains Off Me”
Delta Routine
You and Your Lion (2015)
Submitted By: Trailer
16. “Chank-A-Chank”
The Big Happy
The Big Happy (2006)
Submitted By: @toomuchcountry
Comments: Submitted in memory of Nashville drumming and alt-country institution, Billy Block, who lost his courageous battle with cancer on March 11. The Big Happy was a short-lived band he had with Billy on drums, wife Jill Block on guitars-bass-vocals, Tom Mason on guitar, and his wife Pru Clearwater on vocals and guitar. R.I.P. Mr. Nashville.
17. “Meet a Changing World”
Smug Brothers
Woodpecker Paradise (2015)
Submitted By: @CaptainsDead
18. “Born in the USA” (Bruce Srpingsteen Cover)
Jason Isbell and Amanda Shires
Dead Man’s Town: A Tribute to Springsteen’s Born in the U.S.A (2014)
Submitted By: @Rockstar_Aimz
Comments: Isbell turns this Springsteen classic into a totally different song by playing it in a minor key, but it’s Shires’s violin that makes the song completely haunting. Take that Ronald Reagan. This record was made in honor of the 30th anniversary of Born in the U.S.A. Congratulations, you are old.
